Suggestions Denon or Yamaha, or??

Hi,
I just purchased a Pioneer 42" plasma and this is what I currently have:
Denon 2800 receiver (7 yrs old)
Polk RM 7500 surround sound and sub woofer (7 yrs old)
Sony (3 yrs old) DVD
Sony 200 disk changer (very old)
Within a year Blue ray
Dish network soon to be upgraded to HD (when the snow on the roof melts)

I know my stuff is old and I was told I would need to get a new receiver to take advantage of the HD and the new HDMI. I have been comparing the Denon 2308 CI to the Yamaha RXV 633. What are your thoughts?

When I swapped out my 34" Mitsubishi with the plasma I noticed the inputs/outputs are quite different and consequently I'm not sure I have it set up correctly. The plasm has 1 S-video and for some reason I am unable to run the Denon setup on screen. I have no idea what I did. I have video and audio.
So with that all said I am looking for receivers under $1k, preferably $5-$800 if that is possible.

Speakers have the largest impact on the sound of your system and it's always best to invest there first. That said, the new Yammie 663 should be out soon and would easily be my pick at $500. Pioneer is planning on releasing the 1018 in the summer which is also worth a look.
