my question is about the ep500.. is it honestly worth twice as much as the svs pb12 isd, or isd/v? im still a student so i wont have tons of money to spend.. plus this purchase wont be for a long time, but i hate the upgrade bug, and i dont want to have to waste money buying something just to upgrade in a year or three.

would i ever want to upgrade the svs? is the sound difference really that significant to an amateur's ears, or only if you have the golden ear? i guess my question is, am i ever going to learn enough about subs to justify spending 1200 dollars on it? does that happen to everyone that spends 600 on one?

i havent heard either sub, but when i do get a sub it will probobly be one of these two

i dont know about room dimensions, but id say at least 20-25, and my eventual system will probobly be an hk7300, or a newer one if it comes out, and m80's, with the rest of the axiom set up.

Those who spend $300 on a sub eventually will want to upgrade and spend $600, and those at $600 - $1200, and those at $1200, $2400. See where I'm going with this? Fortunately, you rarely double the results as you double your money. What something is "worth" is basically what someone is willing to spend on it. Someone with a $15,000 system may see the value in a $2500 "supersub," while another with a $3000 system would be better off blending a $600 sub and not "overpowering" his setup. Call HSU or SVS. The techs there are up front and honest. Room size and existing system will play a large role in what they recommend. If you're buying this for a house 3 years down the road, then you may have to weigh that decision yourself.

yeah i never thought id want to spend any more than 500 or so, befr i started looking into it

the only reason i ask now though is because gene recommended an ep500 to go with the m22's instead of buying the m50's.

i was pretty sure that the svs would do the job for me, but im not sure how it sounds.. so i dont know if it would blow me away or leave me wanting more.

Very few unhappy SVS owners.
