The problem with this is that it is complicated. For me anyway... I wouldn't know how to use this thing. I am just watching Gene's video and it seems pretty advanced. I don't even know how to read a graph. His video helped but I am still a long way away.

You can always post your room measurements and go from there. The microphones that come with auto eq systems are OK at best. They work with their software, and sometimes yield good results but as tool to see your room response, it's not their intended purpose

Are you meaning auto EQ mic with products such as Pioneer or MiniDSP?

I replied in the other thread. I as talking about the AVR's mic. You don't need minidsp to start just a measurement mic like the umik and rew. You might not need enough eq , but placement, treatments, etc.
