Hi i am trying to setup up my subwoofers better after reading about this on this site and after watching the video.

So i went and got myself a spl meter, did the auto setup set all speakers to small and crossover set to 80 hz. In the article it says that to set the subwoofer to the seme spl 75db or slightly higher however when i checked this i found that the receiver sets the level about 20db lower.

So i cranked up the volume of the subs and then i felt that the base was a bit over blowen.

So do i trust the amp settings in this instance or am i doing something wrong?

I do believe my subs are the weakest link and i will try to replace them later in the year if that is the issue.

My system consists of

2 velodyne CHT-10r

Yamaha RXV 2077

Rotel Power Amp 120w for main speakers

B&W 683 mains

B&W HTM71 s2

OPPO 105D

Paradigm Studio ADP-470 v3 sourands

B&W dm60 rear.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

What happened when you ran YPAO...what were the resultant settings for the speakers as well as the sub for level/distance? How did you have gain on the sub set?

hi it got the levels for the speakers pretty close and distance using WPAO. volume set to about half on sub, if i go much higher the receiver will give a warning (sub to loud) also the crossover is set to max.

What do you mean it got the levels pretty close? What levels (+ or - what dB setting?) did YPAO set and what did you change them to? Same for sub level set first time around. Usually YPAO can do well enough, sub level down 20dB is a lot, so I'd suspect something in the way you ran it or even possible something wrong with the mic or what you did to measure. When you manually changed levels you ran tones built into the avr or? Are your two subs equidistant to your listening position? Gain on the sub is set to about half on each sub?

Problem solved
First i relocated the subs in a better location they are now down the side wall and i have also up graded the receiver to a Marantz SR7012 In a 7.2.4 setup all thow i will be upgrading to new subs soon.
maybe Martin-logan or Paradigm the ones with the setup mike. SVS have just come to New Zealind also so may look at them as well.
