I recently bought some Dayton Audio B652-AIR bookshelf speakers and a Polk Audio 10-inch 100 watt subwoofer. My ancient Onkyo receiver, around 20 watts, has a sub out (single) RCA plug. I’m using a splitter to go from the Onkyo to the woofer.
Does the receiver automatically assign low frequencies to the sub and the mid and highs to the speakers? I can find nothing on the receiver that lets me assign things to different outputs.
When I crank it up, it seems to me that the entire signal, lows, mids, and highs are going to the small speakers. I can hear the Dayton’s starting to fart out a little.
Perhaps I need more power? And/or an amp/receiver that has a feature that allows me to designate what signal goes where? I’m looking at an Onkyo TX-SR373 home theater receiver.
This setup is for a medium-sized roofed and screened deck/veranda. Not looking for audiophile sound, just clear and punchy.
