Subwoofer problem

Hi all,

I have a Eltax Atomic 15R connected to a Sony STR DA50ES receiver and the sub is constantly switching off and back on when I listen music and watch movies. The sub has not always done this. I tryed hooking the sub up to another receiver and it worked fine, so I figured it had to be a problem whith my receiver. When I connected the sub again to my receiver it worked fine for a few days but started to switch of and back on again. I've tryed several ways to connect the sub, whith one RCA plug, tvo RCA plugs and combining tvo RCA whith an Y peace but nothing seems to work.

Has any one experienced a similar problem ?

No, I've not had that problem and I don't claim to be an expert but can you maybe hook the sub up using the speaker level output. Since my reciver is just a stereo reciever without a subwoofer output then hooking it up to the sub with the binding posts works well.

I "dunno".......you could try if there is some extra cable laying around.

Do you have a standby switch (or an auto on)? That could cause such a problem. Or it could be a bad sub connection at the receiver.

No there is no standby switch on the sub, only on/off switch. I tryed hooking it up via high level but that does not seem to be working propperly, allso if I do that the LFE feature will not work and the system will only be 5.0 instead of 5.1. So I think the sub connection on the receiver is going bad. The strange thing is that the problem is not continuous. It is working right now but will probably start to switch off and back on later. Could this be because of some overload or something from the receiver ?

Try lowering the volume control on the subwoofer, and raising the bass level control in the receiver's speaker setup menu. If the receiver has a bass level range of say -10 to +10...set it to +6 or +7 to start. You'll need to lower the volume setting on the subwoofer to get the bass levels back to normal.

This will send more voltage to the amplifier on the subwoofer...keeping it from going into "sleep" mode.

If you wanted to experiment with speaker level connections, setting the mains to LARGE and the subwoofer to NO/OFF should reroute all the bass(including the LFE) to the main L/R channels.

I got some new information about the problem. I talked to the previous owner and he told me that the Sub started to act like that when he owned it. He allso told me that he thougt it was a receiver problem because it worked for a month whith my setup. So the problem seems to be in the Sub. so I'm wondering what may be causing this. Is there a fuse in the receiver or something that can be replaced ?

Sounds to me like the sub may need servicing. Best to check and see if it's under warrenty still.

I took the sub to the dealer, he replaced a condenser whitch solved the problem and the sub sounds perfect now.
