It's funny...when I was in 12-volt...ported subs were for SPL and volume, while sealed were for punch and accuracy...if that's true...are there any affordable sealed subs???
Not necessarily. When driven within the driver limits and box limits a good sub is a good sub and will reproduce the input signal accurately. Generally speaking a ported vs sealed sub with the same driver will have the ported playing a bit louder above the tuning frequency, but below the tuning frequency the sealed will usually catch up and/or surpass the ported sub. It just depends on what your goals are and where you want to sacrifice a little.

I will be needing a new speaker project soon. At that time I may be looking to part with my TC-1000 passive sealed. Let me know if it peaks your interest. You'd need to carpet or finish it yourself and you'd need an amp. I really want to build an SI sub.
Those SI subs are beasts. Above 30hz they go to toe to toe with the LMS Ultra, but below 30 is an entirely different story.

I've had a BIC F12 for a little over a year now and once it's placed where it sounds best and properly dialed into your sytem, it's pretty durn good for > $200. Placement took a a while but it's worth it. I run my mains full range and use the internal xover as a low-pass filter, and that rear port didn't like being too close to the wall, at least for my tastes.

True on the placement....not too many choices w/ 3 little ones, but I will find it....BIC AMERICA Eviction Series RTR-EV1200 is the same woofer, except the port is on the side...but I was very close to getting that sub
