Subwoofer isn't loud

I have an old KLH subwoofer model ASW10-100C. Recently, it has been extremely low in volume. It has made the popping sound whenever I turn it on for a few years, but it has never had other amp problems. Today, I turned down the signal to the left and right speakers and then turned the overall volume up and the sub then sounded like it used to...louder. So I know it can still "work".

Is there a way to fix this sub, get a replacement amp that will fit the same box and all, or is this simply a sub cable problem? I've tried it in two different receivers and had the same results.

Perhaps you need to adjust the output level for the sub in the receiver?

nope. It's not that.

Does that mean the level is set to max? It does sound like the amp is starting to die. If it works when you turn it up, then it isn't likely to be the cable that is the problem.

How and when did you level match all your speakers with an SPL meter? Maybe settings were changed, moved, who knows?

Could it be that it is out of phase? Maybe it a switch was accidentally hit, just a thought. Happened to me once.
