Subwoofer Hook up ?

I just bought a new subwoofer and have no idea how to hook it up properly to my system. The owners guide doesn't have any instructions on how to hook it up. It came with a short little wire about 8" long with a left and right (red/white) connector on one end and a single connector on the other. Where does this hook into? Also, which of the possible eight speaker outlets does my wire hook into? My receiver is the Harman Kardon AVR 630 and on the back it has a slot that says (subwoofer) pre out. In the manual it says, Connect this jack to the line level input of a powered subwoofer. If an external subwoofer amplifier is used, connect this jack to the subwoofer pre amplifier input.
Here's the sub :

Model :
JBL L8400
12" ,600 Watt high performance powered subwoofer.

My sub is across the room about 15' feet away. So it sounds like I need an extension cable to run it over to my receiver.

You didn't say much about the sub, make, power or unpowered.
Is that plug at the end of the sub wire look like an RCA type plug? Subs usually plug into the Low Frequency Effect LFE, out on the receiver.

If that cable is only 8", it may be to short to connect, depending on how far your sub is from your receiver. However, if it's close enough, the end that has the 2 (red/white) should connect to a L/R on the back of the sub (rca in)...it should correspond red and white. The single end of the cable then connects to your receiver. I believe on the 630, you'll find a sqare, on the back of the recever, bottom left, that has 6 outs labeled "PRE OUT." There is one for a subwoofer (labeled "sub" probably). That is where the single end plugs into. Make sure you do no plug it into the sub-in above that, which is labeled "6CH input." That's for analog in from a SACD player. You need the one at the bottom that says "pre out." Hope that helps.

OK, so this is a powered sub and you will need interconnects long enough to reach it. One will do with a Y adaptor by the sub. Not sure why yours has an 8" cable out. The JBL web site didn't mention this that I saw.

I think JBL supplied the 8" cable to get me started. It has the rca jack on one end for my sub, but I believe they left it up to me to get the extension to go to the receiver.

8"? Sounds like they just gave you the Y-adapter. You need to order a Sub cable from somewhere like Parts Express. I got a 25' cable for $15 shipped from them a couple months ago.

Yes, you plug it into the sub pre-out......er....looks like Cory already explained this part.:D

Good luck!
