whats up guys. I like my speakers. I have a full klipsch set up. 2-rb81 2-rf82 1-rc62 2 rs 62 and i have an rt 10d subwoofer. XPA 5 emotiva power amp. Panamax m530pm power conditioner. yamahaa rxv 1065 av receiver. lg blu ray, inginia hd radio tuner and game consoles. i have some stuff and i am a bass fanatic. Bass is everything to me. I love the pounding in your face and deep vibration kind of bass although two very different kinds. I was thinking of integrating another subwoofer into my system. The rt 10d is an ok subwoofer but i was kinda dissapointed by it. I have some funds to spend. I was thinking of sellin my rt 10d and buying a brand new one or keeping the rt 10d and finding a good subwoofer to enhance it. I read that having different subwoofer will cancel each other out and its best to have 2 of the same. I also read it does not matter. I was looking at svs, hsu, epik, velodyne, jl, i mean every sub company. what sub would be a good sub to add onto the rt 10d. around 1500 is most i will spend. help me out guys.

What is your space like?

With that budget there's no reason to keep the RT-10d. It will do nothing but make things difficult.

If you have a sizable room, you could get a pair of HSU VTF-3 Mk4 subs. I'm a big fan of multiple subs, as it can help even out the response in the room.

Sell the rt 10d, it will only hurt a setup with a real subwoofer, not help.

If you want sheer output, I will offer some suggestions. If you want the highest possible output at the deepest frequencies, I recommend you push your budget a bit and get the Elemental Designs A7-450. Its 1650 shipped, it weighs 300 lbs, and it is large. I'm sure that could pump out 20 hz at monster SPLs. If you want something more manageable, check out the Rythmik FV15hp. It won't be the deep frequency beast that the A7-450 is but it still has an enormous amount of output.

If you are not concerned about deep frequencies, ie stuff below 30 hz, I would go for dual Epik Empires or dual Elemental Designs A7s-450 s. If you want something more balanced between the deep and upper bass frequencies ie a flatter frequency response but not quite the overall output, go for dual Hsu VTF3 mk4s, dual Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EXs, or dual SVS PB12 or PC12 NSDs. I think its also worth looking into what Chase Home Theater has to offer.

Any of these setups will hilariously outclass your rt 10d sub.

+1 All this and especially to last sentence.

with one small reservation regarding dual Empire Sub - each of them by itself it great sub, but indoor response of dual opposed sub is a at least a challenge.

bass trap

ny audio geeks out there? building a raised platform for second row seating in my home theater, from what i've read on the subject i should fill it with sand! but i thought if i port the openings and fill with acustic insulation i can make it serve as a bass trap.. so my question is will it work?

i have drawings to follow

The Elemental Designs A7-450 looks like the best candidate for getting the earth moving. It looks similar to the discontinued Epik Conquest.

it does look like a beast of a subwoofer. I see it is ported. I use my subwoofer mostly all the time for music and i hear the sealed are much better fpr music. I need something that sounds awesome for music. kick *** for music and it could sound descent for home theater, blu ray and video games but the music is key for me. the subwoofer does look awesome and i will have more funds soon. wish i never bought the rt10d, going to be a ***** to see

i guess it would be worth getting rid of the rt 10d. i have been klipsch guy for my whole life and im at my age where most would say to put the speakers down and pick up life ensurance but unfortunately i have a soft spot for buying klipsch subs. They always did sound ok. the rt10d does not sound bad but should sound way better for the 1799 retail price. the sub looks good with my reference speakers, same type of cermatellic speakers and all but i would sacrifice looks and klipsch subs for a beast of a subwoofer. I will have around the high thousand to spend here soon. my bass i like is more like the pounding in the chest. the better bass for metal music. something with a lighter woofer that can hit midd bass high, deep i like but only when i listen to rap which is never. my video games i take into account to, the boms explosions from call of duty and bad company, would sound better with mid level or something with low freq like a 15 incher. rt 10d sounds good just not enough punch in my face. RT 10D, BRAND NEW, ONLY HAD FOR 2 WEEKS UP FOR SALE IF ANYONE INTERESTED. SELL REAL CHEAP.

Don't write off ported boxes. When it comes to music, ported subwoofers can work phenomenally well if properly designed. I listen to a lot of pipe organ music and found the ported subwoofers do an awesome job. In many cases I favored them over many sealed boxes that I've heard. Granted, there may be some transient response concerns with them. But, I found _ by experimenting with ported boxes _ that most ported box problems come from the tuning frequency being much too high for a given driver to box relationship. As far as your rt10d is concerned, it most likely sounds like a size issue. A bigger sub could very well solve your problem.

How about dual Emotiva X-Ref 12's? They are sealed and I heard they are great for music being extremely tight and accurate. I think you can get two of them right now at a introductory price of $1200.
