while reading a thread at AVS http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=713512

I got the idea that I could set either my surrounds or center to large ...
use a separate subwoofer's crossover to split the low freq. effects

1) is there gonna be much low frequency on the surround channels or center channel? do these channels even get low frequency below 60-80hz?

2) the reason "larry" from the other thread uses a surround subwoofer is based on a study that bass from the sides (for the surrounds) is better for the psychoacoustics or something. wouldnt the bass is omni-directional thing apply? so I SHOULD be able to leave the subwoofer in front fed with the surround channel signal?

3) comments?

I've always wondered that. If I have a bookshelf speaker in every position, with a power subwoofer, would I have directional bass?

Personally, I am fine with my subwoofer behind my couch.

Having a full range speaker in every location would be something to experience though...

HT setup

Some people prefer 5 identicle full range speakers, but that is mostly for multichannel audio like DVD-A and SACD.
Since the Dolby Digital sound track is mixed to Dolby and THX specs, I would expect little or no <80Hz info on the surround audio track. Combine this with the fact that it is very difficult to do a proper setup and calibration of more than 1 or 2 subs and you can't localize the source of the LFE audio.
For HT, I think you are better off with 1 or 2 good subs.
