I have a Yamaha HTR 5830 receiver and a Yamaha YST SW215 subwoofer. The receiver has one sub output (RCA), the sub has 2 (RCA) inputs. L/Mono and R. Question is should I connect as sub instructions suggest, sub out on receiver to L/Mono on sub? or.. use a Y adapter and connect to both L/Mono and R on sub? Will it sound any different?

Using the Y-adapter won't sound any different but it will increase the amount of gain available. You can certainly hook it up without the Y and if you find you don't have enough gain, then add the Y adapter.

You can plug your RCA into either one. It doesnt really matter which, and there is no need for a y adaptor.
