Subwoofer connecting problem

Hello everyone.

I have a Sony TA-VE700 Audio/Video Amplifier and I would like to connect an active subwoofer to it. According to the manual I should connect it to the Mix Audio Out RCA connector and so I did and got nothing but a humming sound. When I tried to connect it to any of the Rec Out I got sound but can not control the volume from the Amp. The subwoofer has two RCA connectors, one for mono (white) and a red one for stereo (?). I've tried everything but cant figure out how to connect the subwoofer so I can adjust volume to both my speakers and sub in one go. Thanks for any help given!

* Oh and another thing, I have a Switched AC Outlet on the back of my amplifier, can I connect my subwoofer there? It's rated for 100 watt output max...

Need more details

I couldn't find any information on you amplifier so I hope this helps.

If your amplifier doesn't have an LFE or subwoofer output, then there is only one other way to connect it. If your active subwoofer has high level(speaker level) inputs, you can connect both left and right front speaker ouputs on the amplifier to the subwoofer and then run the speaker level outputs from the subwoofer to your left and right front speakers.

It has no such connections as far as I know... But in the manual I have downloaded on my amp it clearly states that I am to input any active subwoofer into the Mix Audio Out RCA connector, which wont work :(

The Mix Audio out is not really how the connection should be made. The High level lines would really be the second choice out of a receiver. But the first choice is the LFE out rca plug. (Rec. Out. should not even work????) A note: on the sub being hooked to the receiver ac/out. NO, you should not do this. That is a 100 watt max, at low amperage. Any normal sub would eat all that power up, and would probably shut the receiver down for a normal to extended use of time. You can hook a DVD player, Tape Deck, VCR, etc to it. But no not the sub. That really needs to be plugged into the wall outlet. Most normal subs will also have dual rca in, usually either of the 2 can be used. There are very few receivers that have stereo LFE outputs. If you by chance want them both hooked up, the only way (and this is usually ok) is to use a rca y-splitter. One LFE out of receiver into y-splitter then into both rca's into the sub. What sub do you have???

EDIT:: So far I see your Sony TA-VE700 , is of a Asian/European model. So I am at the moment having a difficulty in finding a diagram, or model information.. Will continue to look... This is so far what I come up with; Sony Your-Ve700 Remote control provided (possibility of ordering other apparatuses) touches put in automatic day before, taken 220V on the apparatus, then. 90W+90W in stereophony and av=90W centre=90W ar=25W in surround, Bass-Boost system, packing of origin, instructions... - (Produced occasion)

Which sounds pretty cheasy if you ask me. there are much better models. But I may be wrong with the specs I am finding so far... It looks as if this is just a regular 'Pro Logic only' receiver. You may not have a LFE out. Any Dolby Digital receiver should have a LFE out. This being the case, and you want to keep the Sony, then you should get a sub with line level ins.

EDIT #2::: BTW, I found your manual, I am downloading it right now...

You are absolutely right, and those specs are correct too, I only paid around 50 euro for it so its just something I use untill I can afford a "real" receiver / amp... However I would really like to connect a sub to it for testing purposes. I cannot find an LFE / SUB RCA connector on the backside, and as I said earlier the manual states that an active subwoofer is to be connected to that MIX Audio Out RCA connector, which is not working out for me :(
Thanks for pointing things out anyway :)

I have found your manual, still downloading it.

Anyhow, your next purchase.. Make sure on the front of receiver it states 1 of these 3, or a combination of all. Dolby Digital, DTS, and or THX. (Not just Pro Logic)

That connection is correct. The MIX AUDIO OUTPUT may be faulty.

Perhaps... All I get is a humming sound. Is there any way I can test if its faulty?? I have some other problems with the amp aswell, the remote is not working properly either so I'm guessing that something might be amiss... :(

As stated above that mix-audio may be faulty... But may also only work in certain sound modes on that receiver, still briefing through your manual. (here are your connections, see below) And yes, I was correct, this is a Dolby Pro Logic only receiver. Again, what sub do you have? If you just bought it, and can return it then this may need to be done. It would help you out if you could get a sub that has also high level lines in/out (speaker wire). Low level (rca) is the preferred connection.

I've merely borrowed the subwoofer from my sister so thats not an issue... the sub is a Jamo SW 708 (made in Denmark) and it has two RCA on the back of it. It's a white and red connector, one for mono and the other one for... ??
