Hey guys, I'm building a DIY sub with the Dayton 15" HF driver and I'm looking for an EXTERNAL amplifier. I bought the ED sub pre-amp so the HP filter is taken care of. I have a very limited budget and am looking to spend 150-250. 250 is the most I want to spend but I would like to not have to. My options I've found so far seem to mostly be live audio amps by brands like Crown, Behringer, QSC and a few others. I don't like the idea of having to use an rca to xlr for the input but I guess I might have to live with that. I need 300 watts minimum which hasn't been hard to find at that price but they're all 2 channel and can't be bridged at 4ohms. What brands do you guys like? All help is welcome. Thanks!

I forgot to add that some of them list the output as 20-20k hertz. This means they will output lower than 20hz but not at the rated power, correct?

I've found an Audiosource amp three locally for a pretty good price. It is listed at 150watts x 2 at ohm or 400 watts bridged at 8 ohm. The sub I have is 4 ohm though and I'm not sure if it can do 4 ohm. Is there a way to run the sub at 8 ohm?

I'm using a Behringer EP2500, which is the same as the EP4000. It'll do 4 ohms bridged or 2 ohms each channel and fits in your budget. There is some roll off below 20Hz but that's not uncommon.

Unless you stick a pro amp into a hush enclosure, you may wish to replace the stock fan with a quieter one. Doing so will probably void the warranty though.

No, there isn't. Bridging is problematic for the reason you have found.

In your price range the Behringer will give the most for your money.

I got an Audiosource amp three with the intent of using it to power the sub but it sounds so amazing with my mains I think I'm going to keep it to run them. It puts out 150w x 2 at 8ohm or 400 bridged at 8 ohm. Sound quality is very very good and at 29lbs it's a very well built little amp.

Audiosource makes a stand alone sub amp as well, though I don't think it is 300W and it may be out of your price range.

You could always get a plate amp and mount it in a box yourself. www.rythmikaudio.com The Dayton 500W plate amp was on sale really cheap recently.
