Lightning killed Subwoofer...Questions...

Hey Folks!

Lightning killed my Onkyo 8" Sub (It is not getting any power when I plug it in). Is it worth trying to fix it? I work for BB and can buy a Klipsch ksw-12 for $215.00 since it is on clearance and being replaced by the Klipsch SUB-12. I really want to spend less than $200 if at all possible. I am open to suggestions.

Thanks!!

It could be a fuse or something simple in the sub. Next time buy a quality surge protector/line conditioner and it will save you.

Thks for the advice....I see why I should have bought a higher end surge protector. I work for BB and am not very familiar with those. Can you give me some advice on what brands/models they sell that would have prevented this? If the sub doesn't have an external fuse, is it possible that it has an internal one? I've already called Onkyo and replacing the amp is more costly than what I could buy another sub for.

I haven't seen that one in the store....I just checked on the BB website and it isn't on there...I only see the 8" version and it sounds nowhere as good as the 8" Onkyo I had.....

Panamax does nice power protection equipment as well. they are also quite reasonable. If the sub was indeed hit by a lightning surge, get it verified that it (the amplifier) is dead. Get your homeowner's insurance to cover it and upgrade.

I know for fact that it was hit by lightning....I am also filing a claim because the lightning killed my home A/C and it will cost $1900 to fix it.....That figure was enough to let me know I needed to file a claim.
