I have an email out to eD to ask about the differences between the A2 and A3. Waiting for their response. Will have to consider waiting a bit to save $600 depending on eD’s response. I really like what I have read about their subs and they have been a great help. I don’t mid the size.

I have the Sub-10 on Craigslist for $225; may need to lower my price. Regardless, the sell of that is part of the overall $400 budget.

I thought about a DIY but have been hesitant. I am pretty good with DIY projects just have no reference for DIY audio or electronics for that matter. I will do some research today. Really have no idea where to start but I am sure I can find some resources here (DIY thread) or at other sites.
DIY subs are abotu as easy as you can get...but at your price point you would not really be able to save any money...you would want a nice solid 15" driver and a good price on a bash amp or a pro amp.

I'm just having one of those "duh" moments. Is making a DIY home sub (for the most) the same as car sub, amp, enclosure, wiring? If so, I ccan do that. However, is a simple sub box fine or does it need internal bracing? I can make the box out of MDF or some nice oak I can get my hands on cheap.

My cost would only be the sub and amp.

Do you have any good recommendations for amps and subs?

easier than a car sub...all straight cuts...and size doesn't limit you much. I have been building both for about 30 years.

as for picking drivers and amps...check Parts Express...here is a nice pair:

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-752

that would be a monster 12" box....but you can also look at pro amps...beringer 1500 and 2500 are popular and i believe crown XLS are on sale still.

Ended up buying the eD A3-300. I like the DIY route but I am just too busy right now don't have the work room space to do a really nice job now. Can't want to get it and will post pics once it here.

Thanks for all the input.

You made the right choice. I used to have one, a great sub for the price. It will be quite a bit more powerful than the A2-300.

Did they happen to say how long it would take for them to make it?

Estimate is 4 weeks. Since I already had an order in (the A2-300) it should be about 3 weeks since I won't lose my "place in line" so to speak. It was simply an upgrade on my original order that was already in production. I expected a wait of 3-5 weeks based on what I have read on different Internet posts.
