how much of an increase in spl could i get by stacking a sub on top of another? i noticed the other day with strong lfe theres port noise and the difference between no port noise and alot of port noise is about 10dB. honestly i need a better sub, if you want to recommend one my price range is 300 max. my requirements i would be looking for in a sub would be related to how i use it. when i watch movies i watch them at theater levels, -10 on the volume knob ;) i want to be able to get strong LFE without annoying port chuffing. honestly i don't care about extension

If the subs are identical I am pretty certain it is +6dB.

For $289 the Emotiva Ultra 10 w/free shipping.

i think i remember hearing that somewhere, do you think stacking 3 subs would increase the output substantially so i can avoid over driving the subs? also i keep running into this klipsch sub that seems to be priced anwhere from 150-200 dollars i think its the KSW 10, any idea if thats a decent sub or not? i'm going for LFE with unstrained 110 dB output here, seems every movie i watch like to reach that level.

I believe you gain 6db by co-locating the subs, and 3db by just adding a second one somewhere else in the room.

A 110 dbs at what frequencies? As John stated the rule of thumb is close to 6dbs with identical subs. 110 is a pretty high number for low bass an midrange subs.

If the two stacked subs are in phase and correlated (which they would be a subwoofer frequencies), they would yield +6db in free field conditions.
In a real room, it might be close, but you would have to measure it.
However, the idea of "stacking" is a poor one, because greater spatial distribution will yield smoother (amplitude) response, while remaining (mostly) correlated due to the large wavelengths involved.

Get more, spread 'em.

i think i just need to get another sub, my issue is the incredibly high air turbulence in the port with anything below 30hz, more and more movies seem to be adding 15-20hz sub sonic rumbling which this sub cannot handle at a high level, after about 70dB it begins having alot of noise. honestly this sub would have benefited greatly from a much much larger port. at this point im honestly considering a pro sub.

You have a 33lb, $89 sub, it will never sound good unless it is in a very small closet.

Get a new one that is the proper size for your room.

yes i am going to get a new one, with music i can reach really high output levels, like i said the issue is the air turbulence below 30hz.

Hell yeah!!!

even if it is overkill :D
By the time you buy an amp for that thing, you'd have enough cash invested to get a really nice sub... for the money, you could build something that would stomp a hole in that behringer... Overkill is only a good thing when you have quality headroom. You can continue down the road of just making a lot of noise, or you can begin putting together a system capable of audio reproduction.

I see some pretty nice used Velodynes in my local Craigslist for around $300 pretty frequently.

actually the sub is active 1400 watts, no i would not buy that, my family already hates my PSW10, let alone a damn PA sub, it was a joke, yes the emo sounds like a great idea.
