Hello audioholics. My second post and second query! My listening room is 12 x 12, approximately 1300 cubic feet. I recently tweaked my system a little bit and have PSB Image B5 fronts, Image C5 and Tannoy Mercury VRs wall-mounted as rears. Denon AVR 591 driving the speakers, Sony PS3 for media along with Apple TV3 for streaming music etc. My current sub is a POS Sony SAWM250 that I must upgrade...it's mush and thump and I feel like it's really holding my system back from realizing it's potential. I was reading a thread earlier this morning Thread: Polk subwoofers where Dayton was mentioned as a reasonable candidate for those on a budget (raising hand.) I visited the link and began reading some reviews and one individual asserted that a sub should correlate with the woofer size of your mains, ie smaller (in my case 5 1/4 ") woofer, smaller sub.
So, in my case would the Dayton 8" be suitable, given my room dimensions and the wattage provided by my Denon? Or the 10"? Or was that reviewer incorrect and bigger is better ie the 12"?
Or, should I hold off, save a few more dollars and go for a HSU, which many of you rave about?
Thank you so much for any guidance you can provide.
PS I am very impressed with the Tannoys. I ran them up front on stands in pure direct and they are very musical, lovely mids and a nice fat soundstage. However, since I invested in the C5 I am very pleased with the sound my PSBs are providing!
