sub port direction

i have the yamaha yst sw-010 subwoofer,this may sound like a silly question,but should the port hole be facing the front or the side, or does it matter. most ported speakers the hole faces front,but all the pictures i see of this sub the hole is always to the side. thanx..:

It depends on your room. Try it in a few different positions and see which sounds best. With the Cadence 15" sub I recently tested, it sounded better with the driver and vent facing the corner.

Unless you are sitting in close proximity to the subwoofer, I don't think it matters which way the port goes. My ports face the wall. The bass comming out the ports is very low frequency so the ear can't make out directionality. The bass out the ports will reinforce the bass from the woofer(s) regardless of which direction it faces. However placement of the subwoofer in the room, such as in a corner versus by a wall, makes a considerable difference.

Cadence CSX-15 VS Bic America V 1520 Sub

Hello Guys, I am new to this site and need your expert advice on which subwoofer to purchase. Since I am on a budget of $400 MAX, I am stuck between these two (Cadence CSX-15 & Bic V-1520) subwoofers knowing not which one will be the best to full my entertainment (20'x20) room. Please state all the necessary reasons (including auditions, graphs etc if possible) to prove which one is better than the other. Feel free to throw in a few other brands within the price range of $200-400 max.

I would look at AV123 and HSU as I believe they have models in that price range and they are highly regarded.

I have no experience with the BIC, but the CSX-15 will have no problem filling that room. I tested the CSX-15 in my room which is 23x13 with a high angled ceiling (~18ft).

The deepest bass will come from the port, hence the many designs with forward firing ports. I had a Infinity PS-12 with a rear firing port, which I turned around backwards and slightly skewed. Sounded really good that way. Looked funny, but hey, I've got two big Hsu's and they look funny.

Experminent till your satisfied with the sound your looking for.
