I am pretty new at all this speaker placement thing so forgive my ignorance. I am working on finish the home theatre in my basement and need a little help with the subwoofer placement. The room is 25x10 and all the walls are insulated with pink puff and I am going to add square wood panels with upostered foam for better look as well as further insulation. Anyways, my original idea was to place the subwoofer at one end of the room next to the TV, and seating at the opposite end, though not right up against the wall. I am unsure as to if it would be the best spot for it. I had another thought of putting the sub a small distance behind the seating. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to audioholics Koei,

First I need to know what sub you have. Does the sub have a manual that gives some pointers as to were you should put the sub.

The best way to find were the sub should be placed is to place the sub in the position were you would be watching a movie or listening to music (not literally in the seat, move the seat and put the sub in it's place) then walk around the room on your hands and knees, if possible untill the bass sounds best to you. At the point were the bass sounds best is were you should place the sub, unless it is a hinderance of coarse.

It may be a pain. What I did is just move the sub around the room from corner to corner etc. When I noticed that the sub sounded the best thats where I ended up keeping it.

Thanks for the reply. I am planning to get the Rocket ULW-10. Thing is I am trying to do the wiring and install some wall socket for the speaker outputs while I haven't sealed the wall yet and before I buy all the components. I am waiting for an electrician to come increase the amp for my basement in preparation of all the electronics going to be in here. My initial idea is to put the sub on the top right corner next to the concrete wall sides. You can see in the lousy diagram I drew. The only thing I am afraid of is that since the room is somewhat long, having the sub so far away from seating area might reduce the bass quality? If top right doesn't work, top left was my next alternative.

First thing you may want to do is rethink your room layout a bit. Are you putting up a screen with multiple rows of seating? Or are you using a TV display with a couch and some chairs? The main seating position should probably be about 8’-12’ away depending on the size your display. The side-surrounds look like their about right, but the rears I’d place about 4’ apart on the rear wall. A good position for the sub may be about 8’/9’ back along the left side wall (top of the picture).

Thanks for the reply. I did some reading and came to similar conclusions for the sub placement. I will also reposition the rear channels as well.
