Sub inside entertainment center opinion

So I was thinking of buying one of those entertainment centers with the cabinet for a sub enclosure with that special cloth that is supposedly supposed to pass sound better instead of a cabinet door. I am considering this because it is either this for a ported sub or a smaller sealed box sub out in the open. I was wondering how much the cabinet would distort the sound of the sub though or would it sound the same? How will putting it in a cabinet like this would change its sound?

If it is properly isolated to eliminate vibrations in cabinet I wouldn't see a problem. Specifics are easier to give advice for. What does the cabinet look like? How big is the hole for the sub? What sub do you think you want to use?

Svs pb 1000 sub
the cabinet is a section made for the sub in the entertainment ccenters
the area for the sub has a few square inches on each side still

Seems like it would restrict airflow to the port.

This gets asked a lot and the answer is the same: not ideal, but it will work. A sealed sub would be better when placing it inside another box basically, so the SB1000 might be a slightly better choice. The PB1000 is at least front ported though, so you may be able to get away with it.

A door will basically pass very little sound :) Acoustically transparent cloth will allow the sound to pass through, but the sub is still sitting inside another box, which WILL affect the sound to some degree no matter what.

End tables, why not. Coffee table, maybe not.

The placement in front of the seating position close to the center of the room, is the worst location for a sub.
