If you guys where out shopping for a Subwoofer and had a choice between 2 Def Tech Reference Supercubes or 1 Velodyne DD-15, which would you pick?

If you could also post a reason why you chose what you did, that would be much appreciated.

It might help if you list a reason why you chose what you did.

The reason I chose these subs is because they are the best subs I have auditioned in my price range. The problem is in testing the Velodyne sounded quite a bit better against 1 Def Tech Supercube Reference, but for the price of the Velodyne I can get 2 Definitive Subs!

So here is where I am stuck, because with the 2 subs I have now {CHT-15}, when I added the second it made a significant difference. Since I cannot audition 2 Def Techs at once because the store doesn't have them setup or another instock, I chose to come to the internet to see other peoples opinions on Subs that most likely know more than I do on the subject.

Both subs have received excellent reviews, so I am after some real world situations or people with knowledge to give an opinion.

Hope this makes it a bit easier. and thanks in advance if you choose to lend a helping hand.

I chose the digital drive series because of the technology and I don't need two of them.

Alright, I have a Def Tec 15" sub and am not thrilled, I know the ones listed are better, but Velodyne is simply the best sub that I have ever heard/felt in my life. In the past 4 years of high-end home A/V work the Velodyne HGS/DD series have blown away anything I have heard before.

Now, I just lucked into a great price on a HGS-18 / coffee table and think that it is time to sell my old (immaculate) PF15TL+ Def Tec and I am strongly questioning whether I have any reason in the world to keep my Velodyne HGS-10.

The word is that the DD-15 is superior to the HGS-15, which, as hard as it is to imagine, is reason enough to believe that you will be overwhelmed with smooth clean bass for a long, long time of hapiness.

The dead split {5-5} really sucks because it leaves me at the same point I started.

Thanks BMXTRIX, I will take your opinion into consideration...

Input & Rationale

I went with 2 def techs because they get such good reviews elsewhere, and because I like the clean sound I hear from my friend's system. But actually, I went with SV's ... but that wasn't an option in your poll.

Good luck!

Well, if you want some more votes, my ballot is for SVS. I've had two of them and if you do the price/value/reputation comparison you might be impressed!

Have a look at the SVS web site; lots of info on subs in general as well as specifics on their own products.

Geez: I'd do some research. There's alot of good subs, SVS, VMPS, hsu etc just to name a few that are bargains for the money and are capable of killer quality and power. You're much better off buying one real good sub than two cheaper subs. I wouldn't buy either one of your choices. Subs are very important. It would behoove you to do more research and you'll be very glad you did rather than spending any money and ending up less than thrilled which you would be if you choose some of the others. The Velodyne are ok but better performance per dollar is easily obtained.

Subs

If one will do the job two will work better.

Also i like the sound that stereo subs put out. With 2 subs you can turn the volume down on each amp and still get the same level of sound.

Since the subs are not working as hard they should last longer.

i can almost always point out the subwoofer in every listening room i have had the pleasure of being in. The toughest was a room that had 8 JBL 15" hidden in the walls. He had the slot ports along the baseboard with the non directional lighting.

And yes the sound was awesome. But I won't be watching to many movies with him. He likes it way loud. My hearing has had enough abuse listening to EA-6 aircraft and ch-53/46 helos.
