I updated the firmware on my HTR-6090 last year. There are detailed instructions on the Yamaha website. But as I recall, I had to download firmware and burn it on a CD (did this on my computer through Yamaha web site). Then I put CD in my CD/DVD player that is attched to my HTR-6090 and used a special power on sequence to start the firmware update. It's not a very difficult procedure once you have the instructions. Good luck.....

Firmware updates are usually to fix a problem that was not caught before a product was released.
If I'm not mistaken the 6190 is the Canadian HTR version of the RX-V1800. (??)So there is a firmware update available.
But it is only meant to fix problem with Blu Ray movies. It unfortunatly won't turn your receiver into a RX-Z11. :)
You can get it on Yamaha's website. The instructions come with the zip file.
