Structrual damage from subwoofers?

Hi,
I'm moving to a new apartment with two floors and I dont know what kind of material is the upper floor. It does feel strong though. I'm wondering could a subwoofer cause structrual damage? Especially those 10" and 12" pounders :D

If you are in an apartment with neighbors, you will not be playing your subwoofer loud enough to cause structural damage. I am not sure you will cause structural damage regardless. I have read that it is possible to move objects on tables two floors up with an SVS PB12+2 (which I have) when trying for maximum output testing (which you never do). I’ve had nail pops in my ceiling before I got this subwoofer. I think that might be aggravated if I were to play my subwoofer extremely loud. But that is cosmetic damage. I don’t think you could cause actual structural damage to the framing or cement for example.

Before you could cause structural damage, you'll be dead first.:D

Really! Not the best way to meet your neighbors.

Before you could cause structural damage, you'll be dead first.:D
Remember that scene in "Frankenstein" where the villagers all marched on the lab with pitchforks and torches? :D

I grew up watching it on Saturday TV in the 60's.

All time classic movie!
It was one of my favorites then.

A few years ago, Universal redid these and cleaned up the video.

Serious improvement.

Same movie, but seeing it uncut, uninterrupted, and with a clean (but still B & W) picture gave me a new appreciation for this one. What I/we grew up with was a pale imitation of what the original really was. It made me realize that black & white really wasn't as bad as we thought it was.

My dad took me to see this movie on a Tuesday night in a Little Havana theater, I'll never forget that, that was back in 74, if I recall correctly.

I doubt that he's worried about causing damage from playing the subwoofer. Maybe he means that if he spikes down one of those big-boy subwoofers that the floor may not properly handle the stress????

... Of course if that's an issue then you've got a lot more to worry about than subwoofers :)

You won't cause structural damage with any 10-12" woofer. You'd be long gone before it ever happened. I can literally shake things off tables with my DIY Rythmik Audio 15" sub but certainly no structural damage. :D

I have two Rythmik 15's ... sometimes during movies it feels like poltergeists are standing behind me shaking my chair ... but no damage. :)

i believe the subwoofer enclosure would destroy itself first before it damages your house. it being the source of all the vibration.

the only damage it will cause is to your back when you try to hull a pb12+2 to a 3rd floor!!

From someone who has been involved in new construction for 20 years. The typical consumer sub will not even come close.
