So, I lied. I took a break from the thesis-writing this afternoon to calibrate since basement room mates weren't around and I had complete silence. Unfortunately, they came home right when I finished and I kind of want to do it again because I had the first measurement location off by about 6 inches, but it will do for now.
There are some upgrades to Audyssey I was previously unaware of, but one in particular was very handy:
There is a built-subwoofer level-matching feature that tells you to increase or decrease the gain on your sub until the AVR is satisfied with the levels (i.e. until you reach the general vicinity of the AVR's reading of 75dB). That pretty much removes any need for SPL metering it, and was very neat.
Also, I wanted to let the AVR do all the VP from now on, but I discovered that I can't actually turn off the proprietary VP my Panasonic BD55. I have to run component if I want to use the Denon VP. I haven't checked the HD-A35 to see if I can turn it off, but anyway, I don't really know if that is going to work out, unfortunately...
