storing of blu-ray movies

Hi,

I am using the WD LIVE media player, and successfully copied downloaded content, and DVD discs in an external hard disc and play it through the WD LIVE without a hitch. I have also copied BR RIPS, in the ext. disc, I was curious to know whether, we can store blu-ray discs on the ext. hard disc and play it through the WD LIVE. Will I require blu-ray player to copy the BR DISCS in my ext. HD. Plz let me know.

I presently run on XP, and have a DVD WRITER.

What file format is used to store the BD rips?

I don't have a WD player but, with my Patriot Box Office, I can play BDs that are in a bdmv folder format and mkv.
