Intel's average revenue from Macs must be, what, over $100 per unit? I have no idea what it is, but I'd guess $100/unit is conservative. Mac volume rounds down to twenty million units per year. So, that's at least two billion dollars of revenue per year to Intel from Apple. I can't believe they're going to do anything but ask Apple for another wish list.

I had an Apple IIgs in college. It was a powerful computer that had a whole MB of RAM!!! I didn't like the tiny B&W screens of the original Mac's but I drooled over the Mac II when it first came out. Growing up in the graphics and print field, it was Mac or nothing in terms of pre-press hardware and software. Other than that IIgs I've never owned another Apple product. I have an Android phone and I'm not sure what type of MP3 player I have but it sure isn't an iPod. I love Apple products but I think they are way overpriced. Even when Power PC's came out they weren't enough of a savings over the Mac that it was worth it.

I used to have that exact same opinion, and I do still wish that they were cheaper. I have started to buy them, though, because I've found that I really do like the hardware better. I thought that the Mac Mini that I bought in January was pricey, for sure (and I put off buying one for years because of it), but the power and silence of this thing in that size of a box is outstanding. Yeah, I wish that it had slightly better graphics for games, but its form factor is amazing. I also really like the 11" MB Air that I got back in 2011. I don't have an iPhone, though, because I don't like the form factor. Well, and I like Flash.

In most aspects, I'd say my Thinkpad holds its own just fine against the Macbook (though it has several significant advantages in hardware including an SSD, slightly faster processor, and more memory), and both are quite reliable; the Macbook is nicer to look at though As far as the Dells go, they're hit or miss, even among the heavy duty workstations. For example, about three or four years ago, I had a batch that had an ugly tendency to eat memory. I'm not exactly overly enthralled with the component quality that goes into them either; it's certainly nothing to brag about next to a half decent custom build. On the upside, they're cheap and they support their product (at least on the business side).
