Multichannel music CAN be a great thing. I have some excellent discs too and they definitely give you a good sense of "there" or the band is in the room with
you. I don't necessarily need that for everything, and a lot of discs just get gimmicky to say they're surround (engineer who doesn't really "get it"). I can certainly be happy with 2ch music though.
Not to be a fly in the ointment, but I hauled out the XPA-3 and am now back to 5.1 in the main system
