I'm trying to do some advanced planning for upgrading my system. After reading a link posted by WmAx, I am considering going with a stereo subwoofer system. I'm not just talking dual subwoofers but actually stereo. Ideally I want to replace my big Hsu VTF 3.3 with two smaller subs without giving up too much extension. (And I'll probably be bugging Chris for recommendations when I decide to build them.)
I have questions about how to accomplish this in the context of a home theater system. If I were to set my receiver to having no sub and set my fronts to large, could I use a crossover to split out the low frequencies for the subwoofers? I realize this assumes external amplification for my left and right speakers. How would that work for home theater? would the LFE get sent to both left and right channels and therefore the subs? Would other low frequencies also get passed that way?
My hope is to improve 2 channel playback without giving up any quality for movies.
