Hello:

I am planning on building my home theater system gradually and am starting with a receiver only. In the meantime before buying some good speakers to go with it I was thinking of using the stereo speakers from my Panasonic CD/radio/cassette player. Then again I dont know what is the risk of burning those speakers or damaging something due to my lack of knowledge in the area.

What I know about the speakers is that both its low and high impedance is 6 ohms and its low and high input is 100W.

I have not bought the receiver yet but was thinking of this one since it was on this websites recommended systems: The bare bones for 1000$. The receiver recommended was the Pioneer VSX-815 Receiver. But then again I am open to suggestions or references to more info on how to find goodbuys and what to look for to build a nice home theater sound system.

Any help with the cautions issue with the speakers would be greatly appreciated and also any websites or references to get up to speed on the topic of sound systems especially if tailored toward beginners like myself would be welcomed.

Thanks!

Juan

Those speakers shouldn't be damaged by using another receiver, assuming that you don't crank them up to ear-bleeding levels.

The VSX-815 is a couple of years old and was probably the recommendation from back then. The latest model is the VSX-817 (I believe). I have the VSX-1015 and am quite happy with it.
