So I got a pair of KRK VXT 6 and they're classified by KRK as near or mid field monitors...anyways, I don't know how to place them for optimum performance! I've read about sound reflections and absorptions and I tried to make my room into a listening room, but it sounds pretty bad....

Here's what I did!

The listening position is 6ft from each speaker

My longer walls are about 133 inches
My shorter walls are 111 inches
The distance between the floor and the ceiling is 57 inches
The speakers were about 64 inches tall into the room
My floors are tile and the window in the picture in the only one in the room.

I have a rug on the floor and planned on using blankets wherever I could see the speaker's reflection in a mirror, but I didn't want to go further with my room setup because I felt I was doing everything wrong.

The speakers are on some styrofoam in an attempt to stop interaction with the surface they're on.

I plan on getting an SPL meter to calibrate them once I get the money... but for now, how should I place them to get the truest sound?

Thanks so much! : D

Near-field monitors work best right by your head. Like a bit more than arms reach. Position them so the drivers are level with your ears. This may or may not mean putting them on a stand, depending on where you want to listen..

The idea is for the sound to hit your ears before anything else in the room.

Play some music with a nice "image" ... something where the mic's were placed so the musicians are placed....now play with toeing them in and out to get the tightest image. You may need to pull them out a tad from the wall to deepen the soundstage, but it kind of depends.

As far as isolating them, I don't even bother with mine. The mass of my cabinets are so much bigger than the driver, that I don't think it makes a difference.

"The distance between the floor and the ceiling is 57 inches"???

Wow. Are you a munchkin or an oompa-loopa? :D

MS is right. Treat these guys like near-field monitors for the best results. If you do put them on stands, try to keep the tweeters at the same height at ear level.

... and try to get you and the setup a bit farther from the front wall.
