Stereo Receiver Suggustions....

Is their a better deal than the outlaw for a stereo receiver?
Other than that and the rotel rx1052 oh and the Music Hall mavern? Looking for a quality 2channel receiver. Mainly for ccnvience tuner+amp+video in/out. Right now cant afford a real pre/pro combo. Looking a nice 2 channel setup 70/30 music/movies. Prob will never bother with surround.

I'm looking at these bookshelves mainly. Narrowed down to the LSI9's Era D5 or NHT3's. Will prob add a more refined pair next year like the Dynaudios or Revel M22's(plus external amp), since i'm looking to have 2 pairs of bookshelves due to preference.

So the long an short of it is the outlaw the 2channel reciever to get?

that depends. if you believe the outlaw or rotel will sound better because they're better brands, you should go for those.

if you just need decent power, the HK3380 already has a pre-out, you can just add an amp from:

budget amps:
Emotiva
Behringer
Outlaw monoblocks

branded amps:
rotel
parasound

amps pretty much last forever and unless you need more power, don't really need upgrading.

Check out the Outlaw RR2150. It's reported to be a very nice two-channel receiver. It would be at the top of my list if I were creating such a system.

i just sold a vintage rotel. the rotel has a warm sound. it depends on the sound you want what you buy.

also check out the Anthem TLP-1 - it's a pre-amp only BUT like the outlaw stereo receiver has:

bass mngt.
12v trigger
pre-outs

Quick question,

How often do you use a tuner, if at all? You might consider an integrated amplifier as well. If you are looking to do a two channel rig with no subwoofer you could go anyway. I believe the Rotel has an analog bass management system, so it shouldn't be digitizing any inputs.

That said, you could still use your H/K as a preamp with a more powerful amplifier. The audio quality between the preamp in the H/K and another stereo receiver or integrated amp should close to if not completely neglegible. If you got the Emotiva RPA-1 for $699, that is a 60 pound dual mono amplifier and well received here. AH Mag has a review of that amplifier.

I was considering that option of just getting lets say HaloA23. But well not really satified with the hk and Paradigm Mini combo i have presently so i decide to give these to a friend, When i get my new setup.

My budget is roughly 700 or so for the electronics and about 850 for a new pair of budget bookshelves, next year april i'll get my second pair. something under 2k for sure. I was considering getting Anthem tlp but new its like 750 from the nearest dealor plus shipping. Oh and yes a tuner is quite important with me. I was leaning for with a receiver also for the video outputs as well(yes we still use vhs tapes+dvds). The Marantz SR4021 is a cheaper option but not sure if less power or the quality will measure upto the Mavern, Rotel or the Outlaw. I doubt it.

The RX-1052 is a great piece of gear for the money, but it does retail at $800. It's also a unique stereo receiver, in that it can address and output to three other zones by adding amps.

The Outlaw has its own unique advantage of having a dedicated subwoofer output with bass management, which is unheard of for a stereo receiver.

Emotiva

Check out the reviews on this site for the Emotiva RPA-1 stereo amp and the matching pre-pro. You could ge the amp for about $700 and use it with your existing gear or an inexpensive receiver and upgrade to the matching pre-pro when budget allows.

Also, if you want to experiment with a tube integreated, check out the Onix SP3 for about $5-600 used.

I dont think i'm ready to venture into tubes just yet not at all familair with their sound not fully sure if i'll like it. What i'll like to do is put together a system i can enjoy for a bit them onto the experiments

The idea or suggustion of getting an amp and using an iexpensive receiver is also a good idea. Just i'm kinda leaning toward the idea of getting something good as opposed to buying with the intent on having to upgrade. Like what i did when i bought the 3380

I'll second jcPanny's recommendation - the Emotiva RPA-1. I have one and like it. I didn't try out any others, though. So, I'm giving the RPA-1 a thumbs up, but I can't say if it's better or worse than any other.

I don't have the RPA-1 and I haven't heard it, but do have an Emotiva amp and it's great. I've seen and heard a couple other Emotiva models as well and all were top notch. Emotiva does 30 days returns so it's worth trying it out. Never heard of Emotiva till a few months ago, but glad I know about them now.

Since i live outside the states 30day return is not such an appealing incentive. unless you get something DOA. But that amps looks like a beast my kliller will be the shipping its like 60lbs ouch. I have to to get it shipped to miami and then from their to here. that could be about 150 bucks extra at the least. For that i amount i could get a HaloA23 locally. Other than the extra watts how does emotiva compare to parasound?
