That is precisely why when they do controlled (valid) tests, you have no idea about the details of what you are listening to, which only ends up biasing judgment....especially things like the physical weight of the DUT...which can psychologically lead to "lightweight", less "full" sound :).

What power output NAD....and how much louder were you listening when it "blew away" the HK?

Yep, that explains it ;).
Yah, this is just my opinion from owning the unit... I will never bench test it for sure. The NAD 2100's are 60 W x 2 stereo amps that I run a pair of in bridged mono mode... not sure of the output. I use an SPL meter to match the sound levels, albeit not exactly. Just an opinion from an owner of the unit, I bought it for cheap... and it is a good unit don't get me wrong, it just isn't superior to alot of what I own, have owned, or would purchase if I did it again.

FWIW, the 3490 does a nice job of driving a pair of 4 ohm nominal Linn Nexus speakers.

Wow...now THAT'S some vintage gear, Mark! I suppose that combination would qualify for this thread; even if it's not brand spanking new!

Do you utilize this system for dedicated two channel music playback?
It really doesn't lend itself well to have any other option.

Oh, well, what I meant was, do you use it as a primary, sit-down-and-listen music system, being that the way you described the gear was in rooms that weren't really "dedicated" to honest listening?

Actually, most "dedicated" music listening is done with the NAD system through either Sennheiser HD-280's or Grado SR-80's.

Correction. I meant to say HD-580's.

The 280's are with the Marantz system for late night work.

In use right now:

a recently aligned 2230 in the basement system, soon to go in the bedroom to drive a pair of Baby Advent II's.

a 2270, due back from a realignment this week, to go back into the aforementioned basement/office/gym system where it's been for many years.

Another 2270 that need work. Maybe next year.

A 7C preamp and a model 8 (not 8B) power amp: both fully functional but I have no place to put 'em now.
