Stereo mode only, would upgrade make a difference?

Hey guys, I have a multi room settup with an Adcom GFA 5400 hooked up to a speaker selector and I use a Pioneer VSX 815K. I use the system only in stereo mode. My question is, would upgrading the AVR to a better AVR or preamp make a difference if I am only using it in stereo mode.

Maybe in SNR, but you'd have to check what your receiver's SNR is over the preouts and compare it to preamp/processors. Signal to noise ratio isn't super important in most instances anyway, if you can't hear the speakers "hissing" from the listening position, what difference would it make?
