Yes, the player is probably the least important in a setup like this, as long as it is decent. I would personally be looking for something a little better, but that is just me. With an integrated amp, this is almost certainly going to be an analog system, which means you want a player with decent DACs and good build quality. $100 used can get you some very nice players.

Economies of scale also mean that you get a lower quality of amplification and a bunch of unused/unnecessary circuitry/amps for a stereo application = pointless unless you plan on expanding the system to m/c in the near future. I also don't see what you mean, because all of the stereo receivers from the same manufacturers on Crutchfield are under $300, with the Onkyo 8222 (50w) going for $179.

Yes, probably all $100 CD players are going to sound pretty much the same, but with what you are recommending on a $1500 budget - $1000 speakers, why would anyone want a $100 player?
So, you suggest recommending a more expensive CD player that dose not sound any better? I guess if it's a pride of ownership issue, I can understand that. I like nice stuff too.

Regards to the AV receiver versus Stereo receiver, the amplification is such a small part of the SQ picture it's not really worth spending time debating it IMHO. I suspect we may disagree about that too. If so, let's agree to disagree if possible. As you know my focus is speakers and room acoustics.

Hi Josh

the members here are giving you alot to gnaw on!:) I would suggest go listen to the Energy RC 10's and then go audition some more speakers and determine which sound best to you. Speakers are so subjective, let your ears decide. In the end they should determind your amplification requirements. I don't have the A/V experience as the guys above and the directions mentioned above are all excellent. However, in the end they are basically telling you to spend your money wisely.

Good Luck, Billy p:)
