I was reconnecting all my gear after getting a new TV and new carpet in my basement and when I was moving around I must have generated a static charge and when I touched my Yamaha rx-v663 there was a mighty spark. (it really hurt my finger) There was a loud pop and a white spark from within the unit itself when I turned it on for the first time since reconnecting everything and now it sounds like CRAP. Everything is muddy and static sounding and it seems like I have to turn it up higher than I used to to get any sound out of it at all. I have switched sources and speakers and it is definitely the Yamaha. Did I zap it to hell? HELP

Yes, you did.

This is a common way to damage electronics. Microprocessors are particularly vulnerable.

That unit will require repair or replacement. The damage is often very extensive in these events, so repair may not be cost effective.

Sad to say but TLS is right.

I had a motherboard that I one fried in that manner. Fortunately it was the only component in the computer (which was running at the time) that went *poof.* It just locked up as a result and I had to cut the power to shut it off. The board never booted again.
