I have just found a renewed interest in home audio about 3 weeks ago. I am now building a 2 channel system, which will probably be an ever changing work in progress.

So far this is what I have put together.

Bowers & Wilkins 685 bookshelf speakers on 31" stands
Adcom GTP-500 II Pre-amp/tuner (borrowed from a buddy)
Note: replacing pre-amp/tuner with a NAD C160 pre-amp this weekend
Marantz CD5001 single CD player
Adcom GFA-555 II 200 wpc power amplifier
also a Monster Home Theater Reference Power Center HTS 1600

Coming just for fun to try out is an Insignia HD radio unit ... might not keep that, but we'll see. I don't listen to radio much, but I got it for $50 on the bay.

I am looking for a sub to compliment the B&W's, but I want a clean sub, probably will end up with a B&W ASW608 or ASW610, unless I can find a nice pre-owned one.

Thats a nice system you put together. I have spent some time with those B&W's and they are a nice speaker. The Adcom should open them up nicely. The NAD pre-amp is very nice unit as well.

As far as subs go and since this is a 2 channel music system. I would take a look at the HSU Research STF-1 or STF-2. Both are very clean sounding subs that work really well in music systems. You would also save some money compared to the cost of the B&W subs. Which are good. But not great.

Subs

I was also thinking of the Paradigm PDR 8" or 10" ... but not sure how well they would compliment the B&W's. I will check out the HSU subs :)

The Paradigm PDR subs are very poor as well. Stay clear unless you step up to the DSP series.

I just noticed the HSU STF-1 is on sale at 254.00. Not sure for how long. But that is a really good deal.

I am trying to talk the wife into letting me order one. I just wish I could find a place to listen to it before buying. I am sure it will sound good, but I would like to compare it to the B&W and the Paradigm.
