Star Wars in High Def

No, not intentionally he didn't. Film degrades over time as it sits in storage. To make matters worse, the negatives were used so much to make duplicates that they collected a lot of dirt.

You can read about the restoration process that was done here.

Any thoughts on the possibility of three more movies?

I think the old star wars movies will look really bad in high def, very fake. I am hoping someone will come out with a new sci fi epic. But knowing hollywood they would screw it up with their social agenda, political correctness, and marketing/sales. It would have to be made in some other country :)
It won't look any more fake than it did at the theaters. 35mm is much higher resolution than any home HD format.

As long as the only involvement George has is to approve it, I'm all for more Star Wars. Thrawn trilogy anyone?

I'd be all over a that! Those books were an excellent read. As an aside, I always thought the Rogue Squadron books would make an excellent basis for a TV series.

Yeah, I know they're just upscaled, but I was hoping against hope for a really outstanding picture, but it's not to be. Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait till Georgy Boy decides to release in BD. Have you heard anything about that?
That Georgy boy is always the "very last of the Mohicans" to do anything.:D

Spielberg has already jumped into Blu-ray, but old George is still waiting for something.

More money perhaps?:D Good heavens knows he's got plenty, or maybe he wants to doctor the original trilogy, I remember way back when he said in an interview that he had no misgivings in "improving" the original trilogy and that the "final" three weren't completely out of the equation, but alas, with Georgy boy you never know!

"Improving" the original trilogy is one of the worst things he's ever done.

Thank God Spielberg won't let him touch Indiana Jones (although it is Lucas's creative property to my knowledge). He'd redo the opening title in Raiders of the Lost Ark just to have design consistency throughout the trilogy.

I agree, "improving" the trilogy wasn't really needed, but I have to give him some credit for being a crafty business man. Spielberg may be a genius director and have created more diverse yet finacially films than anyone in history, but Lucas still has double his money for really 2 ideas (Indiana Jones and Star Wars) both taken from the old serial concept.
