Just bought these dvd last week & noticed that all 3 say dolby digital 5.1 EX. The problem is that they do not trigger my Pioneer 45tx receiver. I tried all 3 over the week end & they are all the same. When I tried IV, it displayed dolby digital ex on the receiver. Why can't the manufacturers get this correct? Every consumer ought to ask for a refund since the product isn't as advertised.

I played II this weekend, and it came across as Digital 3/2.1
IV came across as Digital Lt/Rt

Episode I has disappeared (kill the kids!) and I haven't purchased III yet

The first one for sure had incorrect flags and may not be properly detected by some receivers. Solution - put it in EX manually.

None of the Prequel Trilogy discs are flagged. They are 5.1EX tracks though. Just manually switch to Dolby EX as has been suggested.

Here's a list of Dolby EX films released as well as some upcoming ones. There are plenty that also don't have the correct EX flag.

Folks,
If you have the option, set EX surround to "ON" as opposed to "AUTO" If you have a separate button on your processor or receiver or remote, you might have to press the THX button for EX surround to work! Hope this helps.

I understand that I can manually correct the problem. Why can't the dvd discs be produced as they are advertised?

Just because you must manually switch to the EX track doesn't mean the disc wasn't produced as advertised!

Sheez...Why doesn't my Scarface disc know my receiver is DTS capable stupid disc they should be sued for false advertising!

Are we really getting this lazy. Perhaps we should compress the video and audio tracks on these disc even further, so we have room for a system diagnostic tool that determines what our system is capable of, then have it run some kind of probability analysis, like a coin flip, to determine which settings we actually prefer.

No one asked for a wise xxx reply. If the disc is advertised as 5.1 EX, then when you insert it into the player, choose the sound track that you want it should be flagged correctly and trigger the receiver as it should. Is that too much to ask? When my company produces a product that does not function as advertised, we have to correct it. That is called accountability.

I agree with nibhaz. They do contain what they advertise. Get over yourself. You got your solution...enjoy the movies!

Dont you guys use your rear speakers for 5.1 material. I have my receiver set to use the rears on all 5.1 material Automatically(DD + PLIIx, DTS Neo 6), So weather its flagged or not I always have 7.1 surround, I dont even think about it.

Charlie and the chocolate factory is 5.1 EX, and my HK AVR 7300 detected the stream as 3/2/.1-EX ENABLED, and it showed the rear channels as enabled.

Pretty slick.

Theres a trailer on Batman Begins for this movie and I mute and skip it every time...

I liked the first one a lot better. The best part of this version was the squirrels. The rest of it seemed...contrived and overly focused on special effects. At least to me.

That is what I figured. Granted I may end up seeing it myself.
It's just that the music in the previews really made it seem corny.
I'm sure it could be no where near the quality of the original.
