Hi,

I have this question: I want to connect my DVD player video output to AV receiver using component video. Shall I use the regular AV cable (Red, White and Yellow) or shall I buy good Coaxial cable for this?

Also will Coaxial cable improve audio quality if I use a good Coaxial cables( near 75 Ohm) in place of standard RCA Red and White cable supplied with my DVD player?

Welcome to the forum!

The general difference between those types of cable is the amount of electrical shielding. Video cables have more shielding than audio cables. The red/white/yellow cables that you mentioned have two audio cables (red/white) and one video cable (yellow). Here's where I might be wrong - I think that they are all coax. You can certainly give the red/white/yellow a try. If it looks bad, it might be interference getting into the lines through the audio cables, so I'd then recommend using all video cables for the three video feeds that comprise component video.

Also, improving analog audio quality with better shielded cables depends on if you are getting any interference in the lines. What I'd recommend, if you can do this, is to run digital audio from the DVD player to the receiver instead of running analog.

I would buy an actual component video cable. Video cable spec is 75Ohms, while for audio it may or may not be. For audio, it is less important, but for video, if the cable is not 75 Ohm, it will be an issue. You don't need to spend top dollar, check out Blue Jeans (see sig): their component cable is easily the best I've ever used and it doesn't cost a lot at all.

Thanks. I have bought a Component Cable (Bandridge) and also a Digital Coaxial for the audio from DVD Player to the receiver.
