I couldn't agree with the author MORE.

My SD channels...the HBO's and SHO's and MAX's look like absolute SH!T!.

I could not f*cking believe that, after talking with people at Sound Advice for two hours, they wouldn't mention this at ALL...ESPECIALLY when they're ringing up a 6K+ tab.

I picked up the New Pioneer Elite 1130, and yeah, the HD channels look f*cking phenominal, but all the SD pics, especially the SD "movie" channels, look horrid (big blotches of digital color).

I have not played around at all with my cable box, and perhaps that could be something.

I would love to know exactly what to do to troubleshoot this.

Also, what do you guys know about BURN-IN with Plasma? I always heard that this can be an issue, and ALWAYS assumed that it was a long-run issue (i.e. not something that would be a problem straight away)...long story short, if I watch ESPN HD, the programs that aren't shown in widescreen, ESPN has these funky looking sidebars that have these verticle white stripes...I noticed, after two weeks of having the TV, that when I switch the channels after having ESPN HD on, that I can see these verticle stripes.

Anyone comment on this? Could I have a f*cked up unit? Or is this normal?

1. I would not be upset about the way a PRO1130HD produces standard def. It is one of the best sets in our store when displaying SD TV(other than the few tubes we have of course).

2. Plasma burn in is an "issue" if you try to make it one. I have never had any customers complain about burn in. Watching ESPN or a movie with bars on the top and bottom wont burn in to the screen with casual watching (watching sports center for an hour on two a day, or a 1.5 to 3 hour long movie.) You would have to get a tivo, pause sports center, leave it that way for several hours(I do mean several) then you may have some burn in issues. With in two weeks, I find it very very hard to believe that you are having an issue with this. If you find this to be the case, play varying source material, for a few days and see if it is still there.

HD Programming

I have a great deal of HD programming through my cable company in Central New Jersey:

Channels 158-186; I don't purchase every HD format available and not every number cooresponds to programming- there's a couple of "empty channels"

WNBC Weather
WABC News
WNBC HD
WNYW- FOX HD
NJN HD
WCBS HD
WABC HD
WNET HD- PBS HD
TNT HD
INHD1
INHD2
DISCOVERY HD
BRAVO HD
HDNET Movies
HDNET
ESPN HD
YES
WealthTV

SHOWTIME HD
HBO HD
STARZ HD
Cinemax HD
The Movie Channel HD

I choose not to purchase any of the last 5 on my list. The first grouping is available in 2 separate packages; $9 and $5 month extra. There's quite a bit of programming in my area from the cable company. The number has already increased in the 6 months I've had the service.

I imagine the people claiming to be happy with the HD status quo are good at kidding themselves.
I would consider myself to be a part of the "Status quo" group. Yes out of 250 channels I only have 13 HD channels. I realize that it don't seem like very many, but how many channels out of 300 or 250 to you actually watch on a regular basis? Is it really necessary to have the shopping network in HD? I guess I am one of the lucky ones who actually has a large quanity of shows that I watch that are in HD. So I would say for me approx 85% of my weekly viewing is HD.

I am sorry you have buyers remorse, but instead of telling people its a waste of money to buy a HDTV you should encourage them to buy one. The more people that own a digital set the faster things will move along.

Another fact to chew on a bit, by July 1st of next year all TVs 25" and up will be required to have HD capability. One year later all TVs will be HDTV. SO I am sure at that point things will get moving pretty fast.

You are correct. I sound like a winey little girl. I am just frustrated by the way things are. People I know that have HD sets don't care about picture quality. Even a few on this forum are happy to watch 480p in widescreen and they OWN HDTV's. Most of the people I talk to about HD don't care to get one content or not.

I must be in the less than one percent that wants high resolution picures and sound. SD and 128 bit MP3 are "good enough".

I hope you are correct about the upcomming changes in HDTV service. Until then I will try to not be such a pissy pants.
