Stacking order suggestions

I finally put together my audio rack and I'm just about ready to start loading it with my components. I have five shelves available to me. My components consist of:
1. receiver
2. DVD player
3. HD cable box
4. PS2

I still have 2 shelves available under my TV, but I definately want to put the receiver on the new rack and I've been considering the top because it would be least enclosed on the top shelf. I also want to save the bottom shelf of the new rack for the future purchase of an amplifier.

Any suggestions for stacking order would be greatly appreciated.

Here's how I chose to do it: http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18052

I have a universal player so that meant a lot of wires to both the TV and preamp and so the player sits over the preamp. The turntable had to go on top to put vinyl in. The rest went so I could run the wires easily.

The preamp and amp in my system run by far the hottest so bear that in mind. A separate amp stand may be a good idea over the bottom shelf depending on your clearance. The other consideration besides heat is that it is easier to operate a remote to something that is higher up than something low- cofee table gets in the way etc. Enjoy the new layout.

Great pics of a great set-up. I love your set-up. I just wish my rack was wide enough to fit components 2 wide. The separate amp stand is a great idea though. I guess the PS2 should go near the bottom since conceivably I could pull it off the rack because of the wired controllers.
Ah well, that one!

The problem with having the receiver on top is, then your wiring hangs down over everything else. Heat wise, it is best on the top if the rack is not an open one.

If you don't have one already, get a slim PS2, you can put it just about anywhere. Next would be Logitech wireless controllers - these things rock. You don't need to see the PS2 at all, just need access for discs/cards.

Thanks. I spent a long time looking for a low profile double wide rack and finally found it at the best price in Quebec. I didn't want anything high in between the speakers. The point about running the wires is well taken, obviously I didn't go for hiding my wires to carefully! There is always some tradeoff.

Despite what I said, I have my receiver on top too :) My lower rack has doors, but the top shelf is open (Salamander Synergy): link, so it gets better air flow up there. I don't have anything below it besides the PS2 and amps, so wiring isn't a bother.

Awesome suggestions guys. I actually do have a slim ps2, I hate it though. It was a lot better when I had the original style ps2 because I didn't have to almost physically remove it from the shelf under the TV just to switch discs.

Yeah, the top load is an issue, but I have room for that in my setup fortunately.
