SqueezeBox SQ vs Big $$$ CD player +++

Probably a DUMB question, but are the DACs in the SqueezeBox, equal to the DACs in the sub $999 level CD players?

Also, does the "Squeeze" by-pass my intergrated sound card DACs in my crappy PC, thus alleviating the need to mess with the old PC beast?

(I have ripped everything lossless. )

Not worried about the coolness factor, just the best reasonable sound quality.

Don't have an answer for your first question as I don't own anything anywhere near that price range. But the answer to your second question is yes.

The Squeezebox uses Burr-Brown DACS (don't recall which model number) so should be pretty good but that is irrelevant unless you were to connect the Squeezebox to your receiver using analog cables.

The Squeezebox has both optical and coaxial digital outputs and if you use those the receiver will be doing the digital to analog conversion.

I will probably be using analogs to an ..

intergrated amp (Onix A-120 mk II)for the living room.

I guess I have finally realized that not every room needs a 5 speaker setup, so I am skipping the digital/coax/optical input for this hook up. 2 channel lives!

Amazing, after all this I am intentionally going back to old school analogue.

The Squeezebox is pretty much made to take lossless audio and perform DAC to your receiver or integrated amplifier. That was one of the design goals and it's positioned in the market as a "CD transport killer".
