Square Me Away on Paradigm Monitor 11's V3-V5

I'm looking at a pair of Paradigm Monitor 11v3's. I like them from the bass extension and more importantly the output in the midbass range. I have not heard a v4 or v5 so I'm curious how they compare. I see lots of people recommending Studio's, but at the new price Studio's are out of my budget. I'd like to stick to $1000 new or used for a set of towers.

I have a Shiva in my car so I like where you're coming from.. This is something I had not thought about yet.. Might be worth looking at a cabinet builder.
Exodus subs are sweet eh? I've got a maelstrom in my HT and I wish I had two more because it kicks so much *** =(

If you do decide to do a kit, make sure to keep cabinet width the same as the design, and to follow the documentation in general. I definitely think the results will be outstanding - a lot better than commercial stuff can get you.

Unless your willing to DIY....your looking at min~$800-1000 for a cabinet builder....I was recently down that road having looked into some prices:(.

I do love those subs!
The only issue with building something is that I don't have a great way to hear it.. That's a lot of faith to put into a ~$1,000 investment.

But back to the original question, anybody know?

I'm really looking for astounding midbass out of towers.. Something that could, for example, pound out The Eagles Hotel California Live kickdrum in the intro. I have a Velodyne FSR-15 that will be used but I don't like the sound quality in the midbass range.. It plays very low with authority and output, but doesn't stay tight in it's upper range.

Faith that will be well-rewarded!! :D

The ZA5.5tt is a 2.5 way design, so it will have full BSC, above average sensitivity. Midbass should not be a problem for such a speake with four 5.25 inch drivers, as long as you build the box to be non resonant and tune the enclosure optimally. This driver is actually well suited to a dual mass loaded transmission line speaker.

There are countless other options, however, when it comes to DIY. You just need to say the word and you'll be building some kick *** speakers.

I believe the less expensive velodyne subs have pretty high inductance from what i've seen If you want good midbass out of a high excursion driver, you want low inductance. The shivas-X2 for example have multiple shorting rings allowing reponse to be clean up high.

Placement is also a large factor however, and i'm not sure what kind of measured performance you're getting in your room. Your problem might be as simple as subwoofer placement - and multiple subs help address that.

There are superior options to the monitor 11s if you insist on a commercial sub, although they won't match a DIY speaker for the money.

Focal, Infinity, Focal, EMPTek, SVS should all have superior offerings in the price range of the Paradigm Monitor 11s.

Ultimately though, I can't stress enough the importance of room acoustics and placement, when it comes to bass.

Thanks for the solid post. And I will think more on DIY builds. But for now - anybody know the difference to the original question?
And/or recommend pre-finished towers that can belt out solid midbass for house and electronica music.. And a bonus if they have 5 drivers.. simply to appease my ego ;)

I highly regard the PSB Imagine T (easily within your range) and the Synchrony one series for their rich and accurate sounding bass and midbass.

Not sure how set you are on towers versus bookshelves but Focal makes a bookshelf, the Chorus 807 V, that has a 7" polyglass driver, it blew me away the bass that little bookshelf could put out. I truly liked that more than focals towers that cost 3 times as much. None of their towers have that same 7" polyglass driver and its a crying shame.

Focal Chorus 726V floorstander was a pretty solid performer at its pricepoint as well.

The above are all things I've personally auditioned and enjoyed while shopping for my current speakers that I'm really happy with. Do give them a listen. Don't stop there though as there is a ton of stuff out there that I haven't had a chance to audition and what I like you may not.
