you are right.these BOSE 802's where given to me. used to be in a bar
they are rated at 1 ohm.it will be an experiment might upgrade later.
are there any decent drivers around with the same diameter ?

In the end the entire system the cabinet, drivers and crossover work together to make the sound. So taking the drivers out of the Bose and replacing them with quality drivers won't get you too far. If you want to build speakers from scratch I can help you there, but if you aren't interested in a big project I would recommend selling the Bose speakers and buying some new ones.

If you are dead set on buying new drivers to replace the current ones you can check out parts express to pick the right driver you will need to model in in WinISD and see how it will work in the Bose enclosure as well. Lastly, to ensure that it works you will need to check the crossover settings on the Bose and make sure it works with the drivers you get.

Not neccessarily. It is good, but it would be tough to quantify 'the best'. One of the best, along with the sphere would be the snailshell ( See Here )and tapered tube/sphere. Some speakers do not require an enclosure at all, like electrostatics. They can sound very nice.

A lot of their speakers look really nice, and they have models at a wide range of prices (many quite reasonable.) I wonder if they sound as good as they look? I also wonder why I haven't heard of them before.

They were quite the rage at audioreview.com about 5 years ago. I haven't heard them myself but am very curious at how they would sound.
