Speakers to hang next to a plasma screen

I am going to purchase a plasma screen for a multi purpose room. The wall the plasma screen will hang on is not deep enough for traditional in wall speakers. I am faced with either in ceiling or on wall speakers. Has anyone heard any of the "good" looking on wall speakers? How do they sound?

The two nicest systems I have seen pictures of so far are the Pinnacle Quantum series and the Def Tech Mythos series. Neither one is sold locally so I am curious if anyone has heard them?

You might want to check out Leon Speakers. They only make speakers for that purpose. They'll even color match them exactly to your plasma. Their drivers are high-quality. However, I haven't heard them. I only discovered them because I noticed their sign one day when I was driving home. I checked out their website and was very pleased with what I saw.

I've heard the Mythos and am strongly considering them. I also looked at the B&W models which were about twice as much as the Mythos. I couldn't really hear any difference and since I used to work for the company I asked if anyone really could hear a difference.

No - nobody could really hear a difference and the extra cash was really not worth it to go from Mythos 2s to B&Ws. First I have to see how my son does with my floor standing stuff though.

At somewhat higher price levels than the Def Tech Mythos speakers are some models by both Magneplanar and Martin Logan, that are meant to mount on the wall (on both sides of the flat screen, as well as either above or below it).

I've not heard either but Energy makes a high quality "good" looking on wall speaker, their newer Take series which I have coupled with a Velodyne sub, the sound is very good.

pinnacle makes 2 systems for that purpose. And they have just released an LCR in the same strip so the whole bar can mount above or below the plasma.

same situation

I was in the exact same situation, but I could not find the quality that I wanted until I checked www.martinlogan.com . I purchased the frescos- they are awesome, but make sure your sub matches the audio quality of these. They look quite nice as well.

Jordan JX92S driver in transmission Line

This would be a good design to use either side of the plasma. You could end up doing any colour scheme you wanted with the box or a nice wood veneer, your choice. The driver is shielded if that is an issue and it is also crossover-less. In the Transimission Line configuration you would get decent sounding bass to about 50-60 Hz but a very sweet midrange and top end, though not extended. I would not build the design with the stand if being mounted aginst the wall. Something to consider, may save you a few bucks?

This is the manufacturer of the driver with design details for the transmission line as shown on the page for carolina Audio.

The Vienna Acoustics, Waltz Grand were pretty nice when I heard them. Great for L/R and/or center.

We can’t hang anything on the walls or I would own those for my surround. Instead I am using the Hayden’s for surround.

Also see the Schönberg series, the Webern. Might as well look at the Trio, too. All are wall mountable. The aluminum cabinets didn’t get past the little lady, it's a more contemporary look, but the sound from those critters is impressive.
