Speakers for the bedroom follow up - emotiva mini-x vs. speaker sensitivity

After getting caught in storm the Emotiva mini-x finally showed up It's now hooked up in my bedroom driving some cheesy old Sony's. I was about to pull the trigger on the NHT's when I all of a sudden got concerned about their 86db sensitivity. My concern is driving these with the 50W@8ohm mini-x and NHT's reputation as being power hungry and sounding better when being adequately driven. It seems most other speakers I was looking at have a sensitivity of ~90db.

Valid concern or not?

Are you going with free-standing or in-ceiling speakers?

I don't think you will have any issue driving the NHT's with that amp unless your bedroom is huge and you like really loud music.

86dB is a bit lower than average, but unless you have a giant room or want ridiculous levels, I think you will be fine. My BS22-LRs are 85dB and I drive them with just 30W with zero issues in my bedroom and it provides plenty of volume.

Ditto. If you're talking rock concert levels in a gargantuan room, you'll need to rethink your plans. If this is for moderate levels (say 60-80dB), the Mini-X ought to be adequate.
