Okay, I've been through the EMP E 41 – B's,
and the PSB Imagine Mini.
I loved the EMP-Tek's But they were lacking in mid-bass (Shouldn't have sold them though).
The PSB minis' sounded okay ( not great) in room but there was something lacking in the highs.
With the EMP's, they sounded great throughout the house, PSB's just sounded like noise from other rooms.
I always heard that good speakers sound good even outside the room And the EMP did that.
Next up is the Dali Mentor minuet (800.00used),
The new b&w 686 (550.00),
Silverline menuet plus (700.00),
Sonus Faber concertino(800.00 used).
Last option is DIY Soprano's from Meniscus ( Jeff Bagby) 450.00-ish built
Pretty sure I'm a soft dome tweeter guy.
Smaller is better- already have a sub and will be driving with a NAD D 3020
Any other ideas under 1K?
Cheers, Mac
ps- don't mean to sound snobbish but no sub200.00 speakers.. Been there and done that.

They, might be too big, but the Mandolins by Jeff might be a better choice than the Sopranos, especially if you thought the EMPs were lacking in the midbass. I also have a pair of E-41 Bs and I built the Mandolins. If you can overcome the size, then they're terrific monitors.

There's also the Salk Mini-Monitor, but that's $1150 I think.

some of great options : Sierra-1 bookshelf, Aperion Verus Grand Bookshelf and probably best of the bunch - Philharmonitor

It's over your budget but I'd check out the mini-maggies. They'll need a pretty beefy amp though and you have a sub so this may not work for you. I really don't need another pair of speakers around the house but I keep looking for an excuse to buy a pair of maggies, :).

Thanks all, really tring to keep it compact 11" or less tall, 7"baffle width, depth not an issue.
I emailed Jim Salk re: the Wow1 and its definitely worth a look but are over budget.
Cheers, Mac

Man I feel bad now, but I'll say the Aperion Grand Verus bookshelves paired with a sub are awesome and I'd take that over the Emps and a sub anyday. I'll also say that the JBL LSR's I have at my work office are no slouch either and I'd take them over the Emps too. You might consider the monitor option. Once I'm done building my Mandolins (hopefully soon) I'll no longer need the Emps and if you want them back I'm sure we can make a deal.

Thanks man, but I'm looking to take it up another notch.. Thought the psb would do the trick. The journey continues :)

I will throw these out there....
Depending on the size you want, the Peachtree Audio D4 or D5.

BTW...the speaker company used to be called Era until Peachtree decided to put everything under one brand.

Ok, so here's the plan.. 686S2 first just because they're local pickup and I'm curious.
Next up would be the D4's(maybe the 5's depending on how taxes finish up tomorrow) , perhaps the Aperion verus Fortes and finally the Sopranos- ( just bough a nice spray rig so I might as well build cabs)
Phil's are too big as are the song surrounds, and the Nates are built with PE cabinets.. I like a little more style
the Marimbas are meh looking although they had a nice write up in stereo-pile.
thanks y'all and I'll report back as this thing progresses.
Cheers, Mac

The 686's aren't too big? I thought you had an 11" height limit?
