Speakers for bathroom need advice

I've been pondering this for awhile and now that I have a little cash that I was able to get away from the wife I want to see what I should do. So I want to get some decent speakers in my bathroom to listen to music while showering and shaving and whatnot to make my morning more fun. I want to have decent base, but I'm thinking they should be indoor outdoor to deal with the added moisture. Also I live in an apartment so they must be hung up on the wall not in it. I want to do something very non intrusive looking so smaller white ones would be preferable. I am a Klipsch and Paradigm guy so anything that sounds similar would be great. 6 1/2" woofer prefered. Anyone have some suggestions I should look at?

I will be driving them with one of the cheapie audiosource amps 50wpc and the signal will be coming from my computer in the connecting bedroom. Thanks a bunch guys!

well, any white, 6.5inch outdoor speaker that fits your budget should do. In a bathroom, a 6.5inch woofer will have plenty of bass, and since its background, having bright treble shouldn't be a need. Unless you like bright speakers.

I have only heard the Energy one, tempest 2. It sounded just like an Energy bookshelf speaker. Its a little weak on the bass, 75hz, but its probably an outside measurement. In a bathroom it should have more.

Thats my recommendation, as its the only one I've heard. The athena one is basically the same, but its cheaper. Although some people think the athena tweeters are a bit bright.

Have listen, see what you like.

Anything for less than $150 a pair I'm not looking for audiophile quality sound, just something thats lively, durable, and clear.

Oh,

I don't know if there is many 6.5inch outdoor speakers for 150.

This one is 149.95, but its a 4inch woofer. Same bass response as the ones i mentioned earlier. Note: Its 150 CAD, so a little cheaper for you in the states.

I bought what is probably the same AudioSource amp that you have (AMP-100). I found a set of Pyle outdoor speakers that have pretty nice specs:

Rugged Plastic Enclosure
6.5'' Long Throw Woofer w/ 60oz Magnet
1'' Polyamide Dome Tweeter
150 Watts RMS/350 Watts Power
Frequency Response: 50Hz-20KHz
Average Sensitivity: 94dB @ 1W/1M
8 Ohm Impedance
Spring Loaded U Mounting Brackets Included
Dimensions: 9-1/4''W x 13''H x 7-1/4''(D)

I found them on-line for under $100 / pair shipped. I have not received them yet (they are in transit), and have never heard them, but I hope to receive them in the next day or so, and I'll post my impressions when I do.

One thing you will notice, however, is that they are not SMALL. In fact, they are quite large, as will be most speakers with a 6.5" woofer (these may be particularly large). If you want something non-intrusive, you probably want to look at 5" woofers. I listened to some Yamaha NS-AW150's, and thought they sounded pretty good. They are 5" woofers, but I thought they had plenty of bass. They are 6 ohm speakers, but if you are only going to drive one pair with your AudioSource amp, you should be fine.

As I said, I'll give my impressions of the Pyle outdoor speakers when I get them. Lots of luck.

I think I'll give the rockets a try. $99 and plays down to 60hz seems good. Do you have a link to where you bought the Pyles?

By the way, I just checked the delivery status of my Pyles, and they've been delivered and are waiting for me at home. I'll try to post some initial impressions this evening.

Also, I checked the specs on the 5.25" Pyles, and the frequency response is only 85Hz-20kHz. The Rockets look like they may work well for you (I think you'll find the 5.25" size works better for your indoor application)

Well, I received my Pyle PDWR63 6.5" Outdoor speakers. The AudioSource Amp did not come in yet, so I tested them with my Yamaha RX-V2500. I ran them as the "B" speakers, and compared them to my BIC DV-84's as the "A" speakers. This was done indoors, although ultimately, I have them mounted outdoors.

For a $79.99 pair of outdoor speakers, I was very pleased overall. First, in terms of build quality, I was definitely impressed. They are very rugged speakers, and look like they will stand up well to the weather. In terms of sound quality, I was pretty pleased as well. Obviously, compared to 8" woofer floor standers, these speakers did not measure up on the low end. But compared to other outdoor speakers I heard, I thought the bass was pretty good. In addition, they are very efficient speakers (rated at 94dB @ 1W/1M), and the clarity was good as well. I also cranked them up a few times, and thought they handled the power without distorting reasonably well.

One thing that did not live up to expectations is the "indoor/outdoor" switch. On the back of the speaker is a switch, which when set to "outdoor", supposedly boosts the bass. If there is any change to the sound when flipping that switch, my ears are unable to detect it.

I guess the bottom line is that although I'm sure there are better sounding outdoor speakers at the high $ end (Niles has some pretty nice stuff), for the price and how I intend to use these on my patio, I think these Pyles are great.

Congrats on the new speakers! Always nice to get new gear.

Just a note that LOUMFSG hasn't been on the forum in about a month and a half, so it might be a while before you get a response.

Hey, I need bathroom speakers too! My house is already wired for it but that is so far down on the list of things to do that it is not even funny.
