sorry guys I’m new to this home theater stuff. I was just wondering what speaker wire is the best to use. I’m going with the 14 4 but which way do I got blue jeans or the Monoprice?

I use Monoprice (12g for the longest runs as well as everything else) as I find BJC a bit pricey and don't need the connectors/aesthetics they bring to the table over basic wire. If you want to do some reading about speaker wire or use the wire table to determine gauge for your speakers/length of run, try this site http://roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm

Just depends. BJC is great if you know exactly what lengths you need and you want them terminated for you. Also great if you need some of that 10awg for those sub runs.

Monoprice cable works just as well. Just make sure you get the right wire, in wall for in wall wiring and such. Gauge will depend on how long your runs are, what speakers/subs you're running to etc etc. If you're running to your surrounds 14 gauge should be fine unless it's a super long run.

I also use a 12 gauge Monoprice cable, and it's a jacketed CL2 rated one in case I have to run any in a ceiling or wall, or otherwise enclose it. For external use I dress it up with TechFlex sheathing, KnuKoncepts cable pants and now always use Blue Jeans Cable's locking banana plugs.

Thank you lovinthhd and KemM10759 for two great little nuggets. I had the wire web page at one time but lost it. I now have it again. That's a great reference for anything speaker wire related.

KenM, I found your Techflex sheathing useful. I just built a big computer for a project at home and doing the cable lacing and design was a chore. Having a nice looking, color coordinated, sheath for the cables was handy. Its the little things and I dislike cable rats nests. I will be getting some of the sheathing material.

I learn something everyday.

Monoprice speaker wires are excellent. They have no advantage/disadvantage over BJC wires. BJC is an excellent company to work with, but if you pick up a few hand tools you can do a great job with the appearance of Monoprice cables if you want/need to.

Banana plugs are you friend.
